Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands." Psalm 97:14

Founded on April 7, 1996, The Land of Promise Church began with nothing but a God-given vision, a handful of people, and unwavering faith. In a time when few were starting ministries, we left the comfort of familiar walls to follow God’s call under the leadership of Dr. James E. King.
Within three months, God made a way—securing 24 acres of land and a loan by sheer favor. Planted as a Black congregation in the heart of Spotsylvania County, Virginia, we witnessed God establish purpose in a place marked by Confederate history and resistance.
Over the years, we were the first church to rent a high school for worship and the first Black congregation to rent from Massaponax Baptist Church for Bible study and baptisms—inside a building bearing slave markings on its balcony. We also became the first Black congregation to build on 24 acres in Spotsylvania; even through setbacks and push-back, God remained faithful.
Our legacy is anchored in three pillars: Faith (Hebrews 11:1), Family (Ephesians 2:19), and Favor (Psalm 90:17). Thirty years later, we remain LOP Strong—grateful for where God has brought us from and expectant for what He has prepared next.
